Where Portuguese nature meets advanced skincare science
From the Land and the Ocean of Portugal
Cosmetic Biotechnology in the Service of Portuguese Nature
LUSIPURE was born from a clear ambition: to develop skincare that meets the highest standards of cosmetic formulation, active performance, and safety.
To transform the olive leaves of Trás-os-Montes and the Atlantic algae of Aveiro into actives documented by studies, LUSIPURE collaborates with European laboratories of excellence specialised in marine and plant biotechnology, applying the most advanced techniques:
• biofermentation in bioreactor of marine microorganisms and algae
• culture of dedifferentiated plant cells
• supercritical fluid extraction and membrane filtration
• molecular characterisation by transcriptomic screening
This collaboration enables Portuguese raw materials to be transformed with scientific precision, preserving the integrity of bioactive compounds and maximising their dermatological bioavailability.
Olive leaves from Trás-os-Montes
In Vila Flor, Trás-os-Montes, in north-east Portugal, LUSIPURE harvests its olive leaves from a 300-hectare certified organic farm, including 14 hectares of centuries-old trees.
The harvest follows natural cycles, in a farming model powered by renewable energy. After harvest, the leaves undergo a pioneering foliar ozone (O₃) treatment - a sanitisation process without any chemical input, rare in Portuguese cosmetics.
Rich in oleuropein, a polyphenol that transforms in situ into hydroxytyrosol - an antioxidant whose radical-scavenging capacity measured in vitro (ORAC test) is higher than that of vitamin E - the olive leaf is the emblematic plant raw material of the brand.
From the centuries-old tree to the active ingredient, through a biotechnological process that integrally preserves the leaf's bioactive compounds.
Advanced formulation & Scientific expertise
Product development answers the same requirements set when the brand was created: formulation, efficacy of the actives, and safety. Product development is carried out in collaboration with specialised European laboratories, applying rigorous protocols, including:
• advanced formulation engineering
• stability and compatibility testing
• dermatological safety assessments
• efficacy validation through controlled studies
Each formulation is designed to ensure active ingredients remain stable, bioavailable and effective throughout the product lifecycle.
The Ocean
On the coast of Aveiro, LUSIPURE harvests Codium tomentosum - the "siphonous algae" of the Atlantic - through an exclusive certified organic marine cultivation programme, with cycles of 11 to 15 weeks.
This algae, a true marine sponge of minerals, amino acids, and polysaccharides, is then transformed through advanced marine biotechnology - fermentation via holobiont with Exiguobacterium marinum - into an active that naturally produces endogenous vitamin B5, a biotechnological alternative to synthetic D-panthenol.
From the ocean of Aveiro to the active ingredient, through a natural-origin, traceable process.
Together, land and ocean ingredients reflect the natural balance at the heart of LUSIPURE: earth and sea, tradition and innovation.
